Jan & Dean formaron un dueto que tuvo cierto éxito allá por los 60 en Estados Unidos; y decimos cierto éxito y no uno rotundo porque, según queda escrito por unos y otros críticos para la historia, este par americano tuvo menos trascendencia de la que su calidad musical merecía; y es que no era cosa fácil hacer surf music al tiempo que The Beach Boys y mantenerse musicalmente vivo.
Empezaron a sonar en los 50 y su momento más dulce, ya en los 60, un grave accidente de Jan lo alejó temporalmente de la música, ese fue el principio del fin del dúo que nunca se alejó de la música y que además por cercanía personal y musical trabajó y actuó en diversas ocasiones con The Beach Boys.
Suf City es uno de sus temas más conocidos y es además una buena muestra de una característica recurrente en sus temas... las mujeres.
