Un poco de desmadre con la revisión de un par de viejas canciones.

La diversión no tiene ni tiempo ni edad y puede estar en cualquier parte. Aquí tenemos una banda de ahora mismo, The Cry!, de Portland, Oregón, que practica un endiablado cóctel de power pop, rock and roll, glam y música británica de los sesenta. Pero ellos son devotos, de lo suyo, de la música, y no olvidan los clásicos, los viejos temas de los cincuenta, como en este caso.

The Cry! llegan a un tugurio en medio de ninguna parte y ante un público difícil, lo revolucionan todo con su sencilla magia, su tremenda energía y sus toneladas de entusiasmo. Dos viejos temas, mezclados y agitados.

“Shama Lama Ding Dong” es una canción escrita por Mark Davis e inspirada en el doo-wop que en la película de 1978 “Desmadre a la americana” interpretaba una banda de ficción, Otis Day and The Knights cuyo papel lo desempeñaba el actor DeWayne Jessie.

“Shout” es una bomba. Escrita por Rudolph Isley y grabada por The Isley Brothers en 1959, tiene una clara inspiración góspel, eso sí, de góspel en pleno éxtasis religioso y divino. Considerada como la canción 118 de entre las 500 mejores de todos los tiempos por la revista Rolling Stone, es imposible olvidar la versión que hizo la cantante escocesa Lulu en 1964. También aparece en la película “Desmadre a la americana” cantada por Otis Day.

Y aquí están las dos juntas de la mano de The Cry!, una joven banda que casa el tintineante pop de los sesenta con el punk del 77, las armonías doo-wop y de los Beach Boys con el power pop más actual. Con ellos siempre es fiesta, con ellos es imposible estarse quieto no salir a bailar. Incluso el propio actor DeWayne “Otis Day” Jessie interviene en el clip.
