No recuerdo muchas bandas españolas compuestas por hermanas. Está Dover, pero hay más gente en el grupo, y Azúcar Moreno y Pili y Mili y Las Hermanas Benítez (que eran cubanas), Las Hermanas Hurtado... pero nos estamos desviando del tema porque estábamos hablando de música. Últimamente en loffit hemos hablado de algunas hermanas como First Kid Aid o Say Lou Lou. Pues bien, aquí tenemos otras, The Pierces.
Aunque nacieron en Birmingham, Alabama, las Pierces, Allison Margaret y Catherine Eleanor -que son sólo dos aunque por los nombres parezcan cuatro-, son hijas de padres hippies y se criaron escuchando canciones de Joni Mitchel y de Simon & Garfunkel, para que luego digan. Cuando estaban en la universidad, un amigo suyo mandó una cinta con algunas canciones a un sello de Nashville, que les publicó su primer álbum “The Pierces” en 2000.
Tras mudarse a Nueva York, se plantean más en serio lo de la música y cambian su estilo, acercándose más a la psicodelia en todas sus variantes: folk, pop, rock... Su siguiente disco, “The Light Of The Moon” (2006) abre esa nueva etapa que continúa en 2007 con “Thirteen Tales Of Love And Revenge”, un disco mucho más maduro y profundo, en el que hay una gran riqueza instrumental y que les supone un reconocimiento absoluto por la crítica americana. En 2011 aparece “You & I”, un Lp muy completo en el que destacan temas como “Glorious” o “Love You More”, que las introduce en el Reino Unido y las sube al escenario en el festival de Glastonbury.
Tras varios retrasos, llega por fin el nuevo álbum, que se titula “Creation”. Como avance y presentación han lanzado este sencillo, “Kings”, una canción de corte épico y desértico que ya ha sido Single de la Semana en la emisora británica BBC Radio 2.
El clip, que se ha rodado en Los Ángeles, en donde reside actualmente el dúo, tiene un ambiente tribal y en él se ve a las hermanas, ayudadas por un elenco exclusivamente femenino, dirigir a dos bandas rivales para luchar en una cruel batalla bajo un sol abrasador. Hermanas de armas tomar.
