El new wave -la nueva ola- que nació en Inglaterra a finales de los años 70 como una nueva forma de hacer rock con una estética muy determinada, nos dejó una diversidad musical importante entre la que encontramos un sonido novedoso que acabará por convertirse en el germen de la música techno y dance; nos referimos al synthpop o tecnopop.
El dúo Eurythmics -Annie Lennox y David A. Steward- surge en Londres a principios de los 80, en pleno centro del new wave, y se convierte en una referencia, hoy un clásico, del tecnopop.
There must be an angel (playing with my heart) forma parte de su quinto álbum -Be yourself tonight- publicado en 1985; el tema compuesto por David A. Steward e interpretado por una joven Annie Lennox con un solo de armónica de Stevie Wonder, se convirtió en un rotundo éxito en los 80 y mantuvo su popularidad en años posteriores hasta el punto de haber sido versionado en múltiples ocasiones y por artistas tan dispares como Kilye Minogue, Luciano Pavarotti o Brittany Murphy.
