El pianista, cantante y compositor Ben Folds (Carolina del Norte, 1966) es el líder de Ben Folds Five, grupo en el que militan el bajista Robert Sledge y el batería Darrenn Jesse. El trío, formado en 1993, se separó amistosamente en el 2000 para emprender diversos proyectos personales, aunque la banda se reunió de nuevo en 2011.
Ben Folds Five supuso una ráfaga de aire fresco, un agradable cambio en el indie rock de mediados de los 90. El protagonismo del piano como instrumento principal, en manos además de un virtuoso y arriesgado ejecutor, supuso un nuevo enfoque en la manera de componer canciones de pop y de indie y, a pesar de ello, lograr el éxito entre el gran público y el reconocimiento de los sectores más alternativos y “entendidos”. Composiciones alejadas de modas y clichés y letras con un gran sentido del humor y muy sarcásticas.
La canción “Hazlo de todos modos” (“Do It Anywhay”) está incluida en el disco “The Sound Of the Life Of The Mind” y en el clip, además de los locos peluches de la serie televisiva infantil "Fraggle Rock", aparecen la actriz Anna Kendrick, haciendo pompas de chicle, el comediante Rob Corddry, al frente de la mesa de mezclas, y el director creativo y fundador de Industrias Nerdist, Chris Hardwick.
Merece la pena ver el final, con todos cantando aquello de "ven a Fraggle Rock" y dando las correspondientes palmas. Encantador.
