Manchester ha dado siempre mucho que cantar -con permiso del fútbol-; se trata de una ciudad siempre en vanguardia, no en vano fue la primera ciudad industrializada del mundo, y ha sido además, a lo largo de la historia, cuna de lo más granado del pop y el rock británicos.
Fue ahí, en Manchester, donde Graham Nash y Allan Clarke compartían pupitre escolar, coro y gustos rockeros; con ellos -acompañados por Vic Steel (pronto reemplazado por Tony Hicks), Erick Haydock y Don Rathbone- nacía The Hollies como grupo en los 60 para llegar a convertirse, en esa década y la siguiente, en una de las bandas más importantes de la época. Fueron coetáneos de The Beatles y tuvieron sus acuerdos y desacuerdos, y es que su sonido evolucionó de modos muy distintos; The Hollies tendieron siempre rock, a veces soft y otras con tintes psicodélicos.
