Susan Janet Ballion, más conocida como Siouxsie Sioux y Steven Severin, el nombre de guerra de Steven John Bailey, crearon en 1976 el grupo Siouxsie and The Banshees. Aunque comenzaron su carrera como un grupo punk más, nacidos al cobijo del éxito de los Sex Pistols, enseguida escaparon a las claves de la ortodoxia y se situaron en lo que hoy conocemos como el post-punk, caracterizado por su carácter más abierto, dispuesto a la experimentación y a la incorporación de sonidos nuevos, como los sintetizadores.
La canción "Happy House" fue el éxito más notable y pertenece al tercer disco de la formación, Kaleidoscope, en el que claramente abren una brecha con el punk puro. En ella, como en tantas ocasiones, critican con ironía la hipocresía y aborregamiento de la sociedad moderna que te consiente aparentar felicidad y armonía, excepto si discrepas o te sales de lo convencional.
